So I failed my language test which really blows because I hate getting what I deserve. It’s not so much that I mind staying in the city for another week, but I am worried about moving to my village now. Had I passed my test I would have been in a rented car for the cross-country trip, then met at the regional house by a Peace Corps car for a shopping spree, transportation provided. Now I have no idea. One could argue I should just trust the Peace Corps is going to take care of me, but then again, why would I do that?
I’m still swearing-in tomorrow during a ceremony at the ambassador’s residence, an event I would just as soon skip. Swearing in with us are the volunteers from Japan (JOICA) and South Korea’s (KOICA) form of the Peace Corps. This has me a little confused; not the East Asian interest in development work, but the fact that their ceremony is at the American Ambassador’s place.
I’m a little disappointed we are going to be in Dakar for the day but won’t have the chance to hang out in the city. I’ve had two hours in Dakar to date, and I’m not going on a lot here but I think it is a city I could learn to love.
P.S. Mom, thank you for the gift of entertainment in the form of an I-tunes certificate. All my neighbors thank you too.
